So you want to have a small wedding ceremony, somewhere tropical and lush, with clear blue skies, on a morning in the middle of winter. Where do you go? The Santa Barbara County Courthouse of course! Whether you reserve the Sunken Gardens lawn or the Fiesta Stage, don’t reserve at all and choose from their first-come-first-serve locations, or simply say your vows outside the clerk-recorder’s door, you will absolutely have a beautiful spot to say your I Do’s! How lucky am I to live in a town with such a beautiful courthouse?

No this isn’t an ad for the Courthouse, I’m just a fan! I’ve shot many ceremonies here, varying from 75 guests, chairs, flowers, the whole deal, to just a couple and myself as the witness. It’s always a joy, and this beautiful day was no different. Except for the fact that this was mid-COVID, so you may see a few masks and a bit of social distancing! Though these two lovebirds have spent most of their time together as teachers in far stretches of the world, they have a bit of SB in their history, and so decided to have their wedding here.

After their lovely miniature ceremony aka mini-mony, officiated by the groom’s sister and witnessed by a tiny circle of family and the closest of friends, we took some group photos, and then happily the couple and I were able to venture up to the clock tower to take in some amazing views during their first moments as a married couple.

As you can see, there were quite a few people out and about this morning, which is to be expected. This is a public destination, and you’ll always find picnicking families, folks enjoying a coffee break, even dogs at play. It’s all part of the charm!
