A Charming Weekend Elopement at Lieff Ranch
This shoot was inspired by non-traditional wedding ideas, keeping it small and personal, and yet maintaining all of the dreamy elements that couples dream of when planning their wedding. Lieff Ranch is the ideal location for an intimate wedding. It’s a beautiful setting with wide open lawns to run and play, chirping birds, groves of shady trees, vast vineyards, a koi pond and even a swimming pool. It’s the kind of place that just makes you want to wander around, sipping wine, connecting with your friends, with nature, really with no outside interruptions, and nowhere else to be.
The guests can stay on site at the unique cottages with collected funky patio furniture. Personally I love a venue that allows all of the guests to stay in once place. It creates such a communal feel and eases that anxiety that you might not spend enough time with each of your guests. And a picturesque white barn at the center of it all is the perfect spot to say your vows. Our vision was to create a wedding that evokes a feeling of both being utterly pampered, and yet being completely at home, spending your time somewhat off the grid with those who love you most.
This ranch style wedding set in the heart of Santa Ynez Wine Country was filled with intimate moments and breathtaking natural beauty. We were inspired by the history and blossoming vineyards of this gorgeous 60-acre property, and our visual focus was on highlighting the color palette of the surrounding area. We incorporated whites, light pinks and oranges, yellow and a pop of teal.
Our real-life couple started this magical day getting ready at the upper cottage which features bright teal walls that inspired their invitation suite. Both brides helped each other prepare with hair and makeup and enjoyed sharing those loving moments just between the two of them. The wedding day attire highlighted each of their unique personalities and styles. Michelle took everyone’s breath away in a lace off-the-shoulder gown, and Lex stunned in a classic crepe jumpsuit.
Both brides being dog lovers and one of them being a veterinarian, along with a vendor team of dog enthusiasts, it was only fitting that we incorporated a sweet adoptable dog on the day. (Carson Weddings has a background in dog event planning, and Veils & Tails Photography specializes in dog-friendly weddings.) The senior dog Abby was from local rescue Shadow’s Fund, and she was adopted soon after this shoot! We really wanted to highlight the importance of dog rescue, especially senior dogs who tend to be overlooked. Our brides shared a special moment with Abby in front of the stunning lap pool at the main house.
Soon after, they moseyed over to their simple picnic style reception tucked in rows of trees overlooking the surrounding vineyards. For the dinner setting, we brought in handmade candles to compliment the light and airy florals from Breanna Jane Botanicals. The tablescape was elevated with vintage style china from Otis and Pearl Partywares that brought in more pops of color to finish off the lively setting.
Michelle and Lex capped off the night with a champagne pop in the vines, followed by a grand exit in a timeless Rolls-Royce, one of many classic cars in the Lieff Ranch fleet.
This intimate wedding weekend perfectly showcased the fun-loving and adoring nature of our lovely couple, and we hope it inspires you.
