Their New North Star: Baby's First Photo Session
In the wide open landscape of these photos, it feels like this little family of three is all there is at this entire beach, if not the entire world. And that’s absolutely how it feels when you welcome your first child into your world. I love the shot where a dog flies by - it wasn’t their dog, but I liked that little flash of, “oh, the world actually keeps spinning and we’re not really alone.” I remember being in the hospital after my daughter was born and realizing that first night, that I hadn’t thought about anything outside of that hospital room for the entire day. I hadn’t looked at my phone, out the window, noticed any traffic noises or birds, nothing. It just didn’t exist. New baby was all encompassing.
That intensity definitely eases, but in a way the essence of lingers always. Suddenly, your universe revolves around a new north star, this little human, and theirs revolves around you. Eventually their center shifts to other things as they grow and learn and become their own person… but I’m not sure that mine will.
So that’s what I loved about this session. We got an epic little sunset during low tide, so it felt especially heavenly and wondrous - a perfect reflection of that feeling these new parents have for their little star.
